Shane Lipson, MD, CIC, has more than two decades of experience in business operations and insurance. He is a co-owner and co-founder of Mt. Franklin Insurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices in El Paso and San Antonio, Texas. Shane also earned a Doctorate of Medicine from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s Paul L Foster School of Medicine, proudly graduating in May 2020.
By establishing Lipson Physician Insurance, Shane brings together his passion for quality medical care and desire to use his medical knowledge to create insurance solutions for physicians and build trusted partnerships with healthcare-related insurance providers.
After growing up in El Paso, Shane spent more than 20 years living in the Northeastern US. He first earned a dual degree in Management and Technology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia before moving to New York City upon graduation. Shane began his career as a management consultant working with global corporations to streamline processes and improve business strategies. Over time, he developed a specialty in the insurance industry, leading to roles at two of the largest brokers in the world.
Shane’s distinctive career path that brings together commercial insurance and medical expertise began in 2010 when Shane returned from New York to El Paso to form Mt. Franklin Insurance. Mt. Franklin Insurance grew rapidly due to the industry strengths and connections of Shane and his partner, Bill Carvajal. Together they completed multiple acquisitions and grew their insurance business, building a leading brokerage with a strong reputation in their local commercial insurance industry.
As an equal partner in a successful company, Shane was committed to growing the business. At the same time, he realized that as a business owner he was in a unique position to have the flexibility to explore whether becoming a doctor, once thought to have been a missed opportunity, could become a possibility. Through determination, hard work, and the ability to survive on little sleep, Shane was enrolled full-time at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine while still devoting himself to the daily requirements of running the operations of a business and managing client relationships.
As a second career medical student, Shane brought his years of business and personal experience to his studies and approach to patient care. This perspective was valued by all those Shane encountered, from his fellow students, to his patients and professors. Ultimately the decision to continue as business insurance professional rather than become a medical professional was driven by where Shane felt he could make the best use of his skills.

Shane holds insurance licenses in multiple states and has achieved the distinguished Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) professional designation. He has been tapped as a guest speaker for undergraduate business courses at different universities in the region, lectures about insurance to local organizations, and is an advocate for growing insurance education in the El Paso community.
Shane is married with two sons. He is an instrument-rated flight instructor who finds joy in teaching others and flying volunteer missions as a senior leader in the Civil Air Patrol’s Texas Wing.
